As part of an action to correct the bad statistics of young drivers getting killed or seriously injured on our roads the Road Safety Authority unveiled the EDT.

The Essential Driver Training Syllabus is made up of 12 compulsory structured driving lessons that must be delivered by a RSA approved driving instructor to all new drivers.

In an effort to decrease accidents and plug the apparent driving skills gap that many new motorists were lacking, the EDT was developed.
