Practical reading

Start with
the essentials.

Before you set off

Three rules
to keep in mind.

Bring your accompanying driver

Drive with an approved instructor or a qualified driver. They must hold a full, valid licence in the same category for at least two years.

Display your L plates

Put them clearly on the front and rear. Keep following learner rules until your full licence is issued, even after passing your test.

Stay off motorways

A learner permit does not allow motorway driving. That restriction still applies when an instructor is beside you.
