Most Blackrock learners start in a manual, and passing in one covers you for manual and automatic cars. The first lessons stay on quieter streets like George's Avenue. Once the clutch stops being the main event, we move out to Frascati Road.

Automatic takes the clutch out of it, which helps on Frascati Road at busy times. A test passed in an automatic gives a Code 78 licence, limited to automatic cars. Same instructor, same free pick-up in Blackrock.

Before you sit the driving test you need all twelve EDT lessons, each one stamped in your logbook. Your Blackrock instructor works through them in order, starting on George's Avenue and building up to Frascati Road.
By the last few lessons you're driving the roads around the Deansgrange test centre, so the approach is familiar long before the day itself.
Once the EDT is done, it's on to test preparation. The nearest centre to Blackrock is Dun Laoghaire / Deansgrange, 3.8 km and about 7 minutes by road. Pretest lessons run on the roads around it, and you sit the test in the car you practised in. If Churchtown has an earlier date, we cover those routes too.
